CHUB is a 500-bed hospital located in the city of Huye in Rwanda’s Southern Province. It serves a population of over 3.7 million in the Southern Province plus some districts of the Western Province which are about 90% rural. The pathology department (laboratory) of CHUB is the oldest in the country. During the colonial period, it was the only reference laboratory for Rwanda, Urundi (Burundi) and Congo Belge (Democratic Republic of Congo). The pathology department of CHUB is the only one that can perform susceptibility testing in the Southern and Western Provinces.
